On Saturday, March 8th, we received a visit from Moore and Teresa Gouldman who had exciting news to share with us. We have had several conversations with Moore regarding an archaeological survey that took place on the Gouldman's property in 2010. The survey, conducted by archaeologists from the College of William and Mary, uncovered what is now referred to as the Gouldman Oyster Shell Midden. Native American artifacts, such as stone tools and fragments of pottery, were also discovered on the site and were taken to the lab at William and Mary to be analyzed.
We are excited to announce that the Gouldman family is working with the archaeology team at William and Mary to install an exhibit of artifacts from this survey at the Colonial Beach Historical Society and Museum. The Gouldmans brought with them a beautifully framed poster from the survey which was promptly installed in what turned out to be a team effort! See photos attached :)
Many, many thanks to Moore and Teresa for this wonderful opportunity to showcase this exhibit at the Museum and for their ongoing support of the Colonial Beach Historical Society and Museum. Updates will follow regarding the exhibit opening!
